Originally from Alderson, West Virginia, Harley relocated to Southport in 2000 after thirty one years with IBM, a five year tour with the U. S. Coast Guard and surveying for the WV State Road Commission. Harley met his bride of fifty one years, Gerry, in Brooklyn, New York, and together they raised three children, while living in Northern Virginia. Joining IBM in Roanoke, Virginia, as a Customer Engineer, his career continued as Software Specialist, several positions in management, and concluded as a Senior Consultant on Restructure and Consolidation of IT organizations for Fortune 500 corporations in the United States and Europe. IBM did occupy the majority of Harley’s life for thirty-one years; however, community service has been an important part of his life over the past 49 years, as well. He held the majority of the leadership roles with the Christiansburg VA Jaycees, the Herndon VA Jaycees, the Optimist Club of Herndon and was involved with the American Legion. He was recognized by the Mayor of Herndon VA with the Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Since moving to Southport, Harley has continued his involvement with the American Legion, the Optimist Club, The Southport Lions Club, and served on The Landing BOD for over nine years. He is currently serving on the Board of Adjustment of Southport. He was presented the key to the City of Southport for his service on Southport's Waterfront Steering Committee. Now completing his fourteenth year in real estate, Harley has accomplished training that many agents take years to acquire: Broker’s License 2004, Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), e-PRO, Real Estate CyberSpace Specialist (RECS), Certified Residential Specialist(CRS), Senior’s Real Estate Specialist (SRES) and many short special training sessions. He analyzes real estate markets, studies real estate transactions within his area, and serves as not only as a salesperson for his clients but additionally as a consultant. He firmly believes in serving his clients, not only with a real estate transactions, but in any way that he can. Clients are number one. Harley and Gerry fell in love with Southport and the people of Southport, finding peace and serenity which comes through in the way he handles his clients, serving them as friends and family.
